Intakto

Intakto has performed on stages in Quebec and Canada, as well as in the United States and Japan. Whether they use four musicians and two dancers (in a performance called Amoral Tango) or only two musicians for more intimate presentations, they create the same enthusiastic reaction from the public. Intakto was created in 1995 by Chilean guitarist-singer Alejandro Venegas and local violinist, Simon Claude. While tango and Latin American music filled Alejandro's childhood, Simon, a pop and jazz lover, studied classical music.

Intakto (formerly known as Duo La Cumparsita) is the result of an encounter between a southern guitar and a northern violin. Chilean singer guitarist Alejandro Venegas shared his intimate knowledge of tango (music and songs, traditional and modern) with Simon Claude, Québec classical violinist, who brought to the group his experience as composer and jazz-rock musician. Through hard work and exchanges, they found their very own identity. From this sparkling cultural encounter and the benefits of various fertile tensions, emerged a group under its own influence: More than 150 performances in Montreal, throughout the province of Quebec and Canada, as well as in the U.S. and Japan, qualify Intakto to present a full fledge repertoire of tango mixed with Latin American traditional songs and some of their own compositions.

Every time they perform, there is a full house and many encores. And more important still: the group appeals not only to tango lovers, but also to a diversified audience from the trendy teen to the nostalgic elderly. Anyone discovering Latin American music and songs for the first time is both amazed and moved by Intakto's performance filled with emotion and humour. To the point that many cafés, clubs and small theatres where Intakto has performed have asked them to come back.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0537/8477/2768/products/137f2dc0-06b2-456e-afc6-ec52dfffae4914108439003310561903-LARGE_8efa2ecf-4721-46e1-8f67-1f923493a0ec.jpg?v=1616189221
lazos-1
Lazos
Nine years after the release of their last album Todavia, Intakto return with Lazos – (May 27th on the Justin Time label). Led by composer, guitarist and singer Alejandro Venegas and composer and violinist extraordinaire Simon Claude, Intakto are back! Flanked by their loyal collaborators Hugo Larenas (guitar), Sébastien Pellerin (double bass) and Éric Breton (percussion) and featuring Jean-François Groulx (piano), François Lalonde (percussion, electric guitar, drums and vibes) and Esmeralda Sumar (background vocals), the two musicians offer up a dozen new songs on Lazos. Recorded in Montreal and produced by François Lalonde, Lazos is an album of enduring friendship - those that last and remain a sweet antidote to the fleeting of time. From the opening piece Un poco de ti – to the beautiful Tu semilla en mi canto to the moving instrumental final, the poignant Con Motto, Lazos is the perfect musical continuation of Intakto’s first album (2005) and Todavia (2007)

INTAKTO, who is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, came from a chance meeting between a guitar from the south and a violin from the north. A surprising chemistry ensued between the two musicians even though their stories were so different. It gave birth to a unique and ever- evolving musical style that transforms itself from show to show. From a simple meeting rose a band who’s affirming its identity despite the apparent paradox it represents.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0537/8477/2768/products/ccbb9d09-122d-420f-a144-63986087dfa83080084199164471266-LARGE_70ce5c07-8016-492d-ac13-c22c4377ed53.jpg?v=1616189408
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0537/8477/2768/products/fac25d65-9eee-42fd-8481-6c8e74925dcc7855948129945263586-LARGE_ea283bfe-38da-4444-8bdf-b6c73e1041de.jpg?v=1616189668
